about

The song is about the loss of summer. I find that my mood is very dependent on how bright it is outside. when it’s sunny I’m more likely to feel happy and the dark often has the opposite effect on me. Autumn is the start of that change into the darkness. I always find it quite difficult to adapt to this change. September is also a month when things come back into place, some people go back to school or back into the reality of their life. Sometimes that’s hard to come to terms with. To me, summer symbolises fun, freedom, enjoyment and the opportunity to focus on what you want to do. I often find myself reminiscing on my past summers during the Autumn and Winter.

I wrote this song last November. It was really dark all the time and I was thinking about how lovely the summertime was. I was also thinking about the time I moved to a new school and how beforehand (during the summer) it was easy to get carried away in the fear of maybe not liking the new environment, come September. I was getting ahead of myself because it turned out I adored the new school and the people I met were so supportive and became true friends. Those memories mixed with the dark skies inspired the song.

I wrote this song in my room when I was sick and trapped at home with a bad flu. I recorded the guitar and melody on my voice memos. So I’ve got some interesting recordings of me super stuffed up singing this song. I later brought the song to the studio where I worked with Adam Cooke and Chris Bubenzer. Together we got the song to where it is now!!

lyrics

Late August evening
I know I have little time
as the breezes love to remind
that autumns coming soon

Woke up next morning
from a fairly scary dream
the realest one I’ve ever seen
full of sunless blues

It showed orange, red, green
all around me
It showed hoping endlessly for apologies
Pictured everything gone wrong
doesn’t take that long
in September

Will I lose my feeling after daylight?
Doesn’t feel right that Summer said goodbye
Hate to see her go
I put on a show devastated
Doesn’t feel right that Summer said goodbye

September morning comes around
when you least want it to
I’m getting really good at making do
with the nightmares in my head

It showed orange, red, green
all around me
It showed hoping endlessly for apologies
Pictured everything gone wrong
doesn’t take that long
in September

Will I lose my feeling after daylight?
Doesn’t feel right that Summer said goodbye
Hate to see her go
I put on a show devastated
Doesn’t feel right that Summer said goodbye

I wish that she could see it
I find it hard to deal with
There goes my favourite season
I can’t believe you’re leaving
so don’t go away I’m begging
One more day with you is all I really want

Will I lose my feeling after daylight?
Doesn’t feel right that Summer said goodbye
Hate to see her go
I put on a show devastated
Doesn’t feel right that Summer said goodbye
